How to Add Product Options
Learn how to add product options independently of variations in IHASHOP. This guide explains how to display a conditional message field when the customer answers “Yes” to the question “Would you like a gift card?”
Product options in IHASHOP allow you to collect additional choices or information from customers. They can be used for gift messages, personalization text, packaging preferences, and other product-specific requests.
Product options are different from product variations. Options such as color, size, and shoe size that create product or inventory combinations are managed as variations. Information that does not create a stock combination, such as a gift message or special customer request, is managed through product options.
In this guide, we will create the following structure:
-
The customer will be asked, “Would you like a gift card?”
-
The customer will select either “No” or “Yes, please.”
-
If “Yes, please” is selected, a long text field will appear so the customer can enter the message to be printed on the gift card.
1. Open the Product Options page
Log in to your IHASHOP administration panel and follow this path in the left-hand menu:
Catalog Management > Product Options
You can also access the page directly at:
https://my.ihashop.com.tr/secure/catalog/product-options
2. Create the gift card message field
Because the customer needs to enter a written message in this example, the text input option must be created first.
Click the + New Option button on the Product Options page.
Complete the form using the following settings:
-
Field Type: Long Text
-
Option Name: Gift Card Message
-
Option Code: gift-card-message
-
Character Limit: Set a suitable limit
The character limit determines the maximum length of the customer’s gift card message. For example, you can allow up to 250 characters.
Save the option after completing the fields.
3. Create the “Would you like a gift card?” option
After creating the message field, create the main option that allows the customer to choose between “Yes” and “No.”
Click + New Option again.
Use the following settings:
-
Field Type: Single Choice
-
Option Name: Would you like a gift card?
-
Option Code: would-you-like-a-gift-card
Then click Add Option Value to create two choices.
4. Add the “No” choice
Add No as the first choice.
Do not select any field under Field to Open When Selected for this choice. No additional input field needs to be displayed when the customer selects “No.”
5. Add the “Yes, please” choice
Add Yes, please as the second choice.
Under Field to Open When Selected, select the Gift Card Message option that you created in the first step.
When the customer selects “Yes, please” on the product page, the long text field for the gift card message will automatically appear.
If the customer selects “No,” the message field will remain hidden.
6. Assign the option to the product
After creating the options, open the edit form for the relevant product. In the product options section, assign the Would you like a gift card? option to the product and save your changes.
Open the product’s storefront page and test the following scenarios:
-
The message field should remain hidden when “No” is selected.
-
The Gift Card Message field should appear when “Yes, please” is selected.
-
The configured character limit should be enforced.
-
The customer’s message should be transferred correctly to the cart and order details.
Important note
The conditional text field must be created before the “Yes, please” choice. Otherwise, it will not be available in the Field to Open When Selected list.
Use clear, unique, and consistent names and codes for your options. If the same option will be used for several products, you can assign the existing option to each product instead of creating it again.
