Category and Brand Management
Set up the category hierarchy and brand structure that allows customers to easily find what they are looking for.
Category Hierarchy
You can create your categories in a tree structure from Catalog Management → Category Management.
- Use a parent category → subcategory structure. For example, you can organize categories as Electronics → Phone → Accessories. Very deep category structures make navigation difficult in most stores.
- You can assign a name, description, and image to each category. Category descriptions contribute to the SEO performance of category pages.
- You can change the category order by dragging and dropping. The storefront menu follows this order.
Category or Attribute?
Red Dresses should be defined as the Dress category together with the Color: Red attribute rather than as a separate category. Categories describe what a product is, while attributes describe what it is like. The storefront filtering system is powered by attributes.
Brand Management
You can define brands with their logos and descriptions under Catalog Management → Brand Management.
- When you select the relevant brand in the product form, a brand page is generated automatically on the storefront.
- Customers can filter products by brand and browse brand pages.
- Even for a single-brand store, defining your own brand is useful for structured data and SEO.
Displaying Categories in the Menu
Your categories are included in the store menu automatically. To add campaign pages or change the menu order, use System Settings → Menu Navigation.
